Speaker Profile: Brian Costlow (@bcostlow)

Brian has been everything from chief cook to bottle washer at every kind of place from two-guys-in-a-garage to F50 companies. He’s programmed in a dozen or so languages rather badly, before getting reasonably good at Python.

Currently he’s a partner in BlueShift Technology Group, a consulting company in Columbus, OH that helps early and seed stage tech companies build products. He’s also an organizer of the PyOhio conference, serving as Chair for the 2014 through 2016 conferences, and a staff member at PyCon.

When not at the keyboard, he likes good whiskey, great music, and a spot of fishing now and then. He’s developing a secret plan to relocate the Station Inn to Columbus when the Gulch becomes too commercialized.

Brian will be speaking at 11AM Sunday on “Duck, Duck, Møøse.”. One of Python’s most important idioms is duck typing. Your code should not care what type an object is, only that it is suitable for the purpose for which you are using it.This talk is aimed at those new to Python. We’ll cover the strengths and pitfalls of duck typing, and idiomatic ways to write code to handle things when you expect a duck, but are handed a møøse.
